Hello everyone and welcome to the July edition of Pilipinas DX. This is report Number 17 and I’m Henry Umadhay in Antique, Central Philippines

Local FM and AM stations in Westen Visayas ceased broadcast due to total blackout caused by typhoon Frank, International codename: Fengshen in early morning of June 21st. It moved quickly toward the island of Panay here in Central Philippines, downing power lines blowing off roofs of houses and establishments and pouring down overwhelming rush of torrential rain that caused severe flooding and mudslides.

For the first time in history, residents of Iloilo City and other areas in Panay woke up in fast rising floodwaters. The death toll of 361,166 people injured and 44 still missing. Government agencies initially estimated at 4.27 billion the damage to crops and infrastructure. The Provinces of Antique, Capiz, Iloilo and Aklan suffered the worst. Massive relief operations being undertaken. Please pray for the thousands of families affected.

Radio Taiwan International is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. They are inviting listeners to celebrate this important occasion with them. To participate in the event, all you need to do is to send a short congratulatory message, preferably in just one sentence from June 1st to August 15th, Email to:


 RTI will choose 130 listeners for best entry and there will also be 300 consolation prizes! The entries will be chosen on September 9th at RTI’s headquarters in Taipei.



Radio Singapore International (RSI), the shortwave service run by MediaCorp Radio, is shutting down at the end of this month.

The station, which was set up in February 1994, broadcasts to the region in four languages, including English, Chinese, Malay and Bahasa Indonesia. RSI currently broadcasting 6150 and 6080 in the 49 meter band from 1100-1400 UTC.
